“Trouble has hit ‘Yaariyan 2’ just before it’s supposed to come out. According to Indian Express, the group called Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has complained to the police about the movie. They’re saying it hurts the feelings of people who follow the Sikh religion. The problem is that they think an actor named Meezaan Jafri is wearing something called a ‘kirpan,’ which is a very important symbol for Sikhs, in a song in the movie.
The SGPC didn’t like how this was shown in the ‘Saure Ghar’ song of the movie ‘Yaariyan 2,’ which was made by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru (@SapruAndRao). They said, ‘We really don’t like how the actor is wearing the Sikh Kakaar (that’s like a special thing for Sikhs), the ‘kirpan,’ in a way that’s not okay. We’re really not happy about this.’

The SGPC also said, ‘This has made Sikhs around the world very upset. Only people who are properly initiated into Sikhism are allowed to wear the ‘kirpan,’ and that’s according to the Sikh Code of Conduct and the laws of India.’
The SGPC even asked the government to stop the movie and the song. They talked to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Information Technology and Electronics, and the Central Film Board of Certification. They said, ‘There’s a video in the movie that came out on August 27, and it shows an actor who is not Sikh but is wearing Sikh things like the ‘kirpan.”
The people who made the movie felt sorry for the confusion and said they never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings. They explained that the actor was actually wearing something called a ‘khukri,’ which is a kind of curved knife, and not a ‘kirpan.’ They said, ‘Actually, in the movie, they clearly say it’s a ‘khukri.’ We didn’t want to make anyone upset about religion. We really respect everyone’s feelings,’ the movie director said.
But the SGPC didn’t agree with the director. They said what the director explained doesn’t make sense. They argued, ‘Sikhs know very well what a ‘kirpan’ and a ‘khukri’ look like, and how they are worn.’

So, the SGPC decided to take legal action. They said, ‘Since that video is still out there and keeps making Sikhs upset, we’re going to start a legal process.’
‘Yaariyan 2’ has actors like Divya Khosla Kumar, Meezaan Jafri, and Pearl V Puri. It’s supposed to come out in theaters on October 20, 2023.”
